These panels are based on Mediterranean birds called Bee-Eaters who have very colourful plumage. They are seen here watching bees flying to climbing flowers. The background drawing is designed to evoke a sense of movement so that the birds are poised for flight – whether already in the air or standing on a rock. The birds, bees and flowers have etched, sandblasted, enamelled and painted details. They are made in handmade flash and antique glass.
The background is pale tinted textured glass designed to give privacy to the occupants of the conservatory while not cutting down on light the stairwell area behind. The glass is machine-made clear and pale blue baroque with light grey, blue and green Spectrum glass. This is fixed to toughened glass with clear araldite and the lines are filled with clear resin.
